I love the potency of little things. One powerful word, one insightful sentence, one breathtaking paragraph. I think that’s why I’m drawn to things like poetry, fragments, vignettes, and microfiction. Just because something is small doesn’t mean it’s not dense with depth. If anything, I think the smaller, the more potential for something to be potent in meaning.
And I think that’s why zooming in on small moments is so entrancing. If I really tune into the present moment, it’s profound. All the texture of different details come alive. The feeling of rain when it hits my skin, the curves on the corners of someone’s mouth when they smile, the feeling of lightness and love when a hug lingers. On the other end of the spectrum, there is pain in being present. Some of those textures come with heaviness. And I don’t always want to be present in these profound moments, I don’t always want to feel all of it. And so, I tune it all out.
