Hi friends,
Welcome to the first edition of Sunday Candy!
I’m pumped to have you here.
Okay, but real talk?
This is weird for me. I’ve never liked people knowing what I’m feeling or thinking. I’ve always wanted to be a writer, and I’ve wondered what it would be like to write one of these things, but never thought I’d actually be doing it.
But it’s happening!
What can you expect?
This weekly newsletter will be sprinkled with musings, writing, visuals, and songs, but mostly, whatever I feel like sharing with you each week.
I want this to be fun and meaningful for me, and you.
I have a lot of ideas about what I can do with Sunday Candy. And I’m excited to experiment with it and have it evolve over time.
Why a newsletter?
This year, I’m all in on writing, and continuing to experiment with new things.
I’ve wanted to write for so long, and now that I am, I don’t plan on stopping. That’s where this newsletter comes in. It’s to help me write consistently, and not keep my writing all to myself.
How can you help?
I want this to be a two-way street! That means I want to hear from you.
Let me know your thoughts, and feelings about what I share. If any questions come up while you’re scrolling through, hit reply and ask away!
If there’s something you think I would enjoy or should share, whether it’s a piece of writing, a video, or another form of content, feel free to share it with me!
Now, what’s on tap for this week?
I’ve got a song for you!
In the spirit of taking scary, exciting leaps like writing in public and connecting with strangers online, I want to share a song with you.
It’s called “Ten Things” by Paul Baribeau.
I find myself coming back to this song all the damn time. It’s a powerful reminder to do all the stuff we want to do with our lives now before our time runs out.
I think you’ll like it.
I made you a snazzy visual with a quote!
It took me a long time to understand that it’s not too late to try things.
Here’s a quote to remind you of the same :)
Looking back with gratitude
Lately, I’ve been reflecting on my life a year ago.
In April 2021, I was a few weeks into an unpaid leave of absence from my job working in Special Education. I was a mess. Depressed and riddled with anxiety.
I didn’t think I would ever be okay.
This became a transformational period for me. I learned to take steps to help myself, shifted my mindset, and finally, quit my job.
You can read more about this journey in my essay On Helping Myself Be Okay.
Today, I’m so grateful for clawing my way out of that darkness. Even though I’m unemployed, I feel lighter. Hopeful. Plus, I’m finally writing.
Isn’t it crazy how much growth and change can happen in a year? It makes me wonder what my life will be like a year from today.
What I’m looking forward to
I just finished an amazing 5-week cohort based course called Write of Passage (WOP), and I have nothing but positive things to say about the experience.
Five articles, and dozens of breakout rooms later, I’m exhausted.
I look forward to resting, connecting with WOP friends, and forming a new daily routine centered around writing.
Your Turn!
What’s something you’re feeling grateful for or looking forward to this week? Reply to this email and let me know. Whatever it is, I’d love to hear about it and celebrate with you.
That’s all for the first edition of Sunday Candy!
Thanks for reading, friends.
Until next week!
-Sandra
