So rad!! Thankyouthankyouthankyou.

And I can't believe I didn't know that about Mickey -- I MUST take advantage of this.

...maybe that is our collaboration...a poetic reimagining of steamboat willie...

First of all, this is my favorite Sunday Candy poem to date. I love the mix of story and poetry. I feel feelings. I’m inspired.

I have a sillyy question 🙋‍♀️:

Did this whole story take place in the seat of your car?

But also a serious one: Which poets are you inspired by?

I’m looking forward to this playlist this week! And I hope you have a wonderfullyy tremendouslyy tender holidayy!

This is funny because I had zero intention of having this be a poem! The seed was literally a couple lines of prose I wrote in my car. I wonder if I had formatted it differently if it would make it seem a little less like that, or if it would make no difference.

Answer: Yes! Maybe I could have done a better job making that clear.

Poets that inspire me in general? Or like that inspire the way I write?

Thank you! It was tremendously tender.

"Lam" means Blue, so I'm claiming the playlist for my December

Expand full comment

No way!! Whoa, I've known so many Lams and I've never been told this. I love learning the meaning of different names. Does Chao have a specific meaning?

The playlist is all yours!

Lam can mean different Chinese family names. The most common one is 林 or "woods". We are the rarer form 😎

Doesn't Chao mean Super XD

"There was nothing I needed to do and nowhere I needed to be." has to be one of the most calming and mundane (in the good sense) opening lines ever.

"Heavy eyelids can be curtains." is up there too, as phrases that can be so peaceful. And in general this one felt even more beautiful, more delicate than usual (which is already hard to surpass).

I was blown away by your comparison to December being a delicacy, so accurate. It does feel like that,

I also loved the change between waking and dreaming life, it all feels hazy, dreamy, snowy.

Will listen to the playlist over the next days :) For now, a tremendously tender Christmas for you!

So we're both calming? :) Hahahaha.

These are such kind compliments! Thank you. The "snowy" one made me laugh. Did it feel cold? lol

TENDER DECEMBER!

I actually hesitated about using "calm" for this exact reason hahaha I guess so?

Not cold really! More like that, a tender December :)
