[Releasing Old Stories]
Recently, I did a fun little collaboration with my friend,
, who you might remember from Sunday Candy #25, back in February. We fused my poetry with her abstract paintings in six panels and conjured something magical.
To check out what we created, and to learn the story behind it, head over to Shannon’s newsletter,
, and read her issue Releasing old stories. Here’s a glimpse of the first two panels:
✨Side note✨ I’m interested in doing more fun collaborative short-term and long-term projects. If you think we could make something cool together, tell me.
Pitch an idea if you have one, or if you’re not entirely sure what we could do, but you’re interested in doing something together in the near future, or at some point, get it on my radar! I want to play.
[New Essays]
I’m back in essay-mode. I’m viewing writing essays again as an experiment. And it’s much needed! My longer-form writing muscles have atrophied, but I love the challenge of slowly building them back up and trying to shut my ego up in the process.
Here are my most recent published essays:
#1: This weekend, I wrote about the advice Van Gogh offered his sister about her pursuing writing. In his letter, he stresses the importance of being a living person, instead of solely being focused on studying, or rather, being so fixated on improving one’s craft at the expense of actually enjoying life. It’s a valuable piece of wisdom and a lesson I’m learning time and time again. Maybe you are too.
Check it out here:
#2: Last week, I wrote about my time as a freshman in college, with a crazy-strict writing professor who forced us to bring a physical dictionary to every class. At first, it felt super archaic and annoying, but inevitably, I developed an appreciation for the slow and physical experience of flipping through that behemoth. I love a tactile moment. I still use it! Because of course I do.

[Playlist]
It feels like it’s been forever since I’ve shared a Sunday Candy playlist with you.
Here’s a little something for those who listen. Enjoy!
Thank you, thank you, thank you for taking time out of your day to read this issue of Sunday Candy! 🍬 It means A LOT to me.
If anything resonated with you, letting me know truly helps! You can leave a like, and/or a comment. If you’re not on Substack, respond directly to the email, even if it’s just to say hi!
I love hearing from you.
I have fallen WAY behind on my substacks this summer so I’m just seeing this. Great poetry, as always, and I’d love to collaborate on something in the future. I’m leaning hard into my photography, so maybe your poetry complimented by my photos??? Keep me in mind
Hi Sandra, I love the poems you wrote especially the line "you seek a voice, and in every voice a home where they whisper welcome". Isn't that the most basic need? To be somewhere where you feel welcome - that is the place I would stay. Oh and I would like to collaborate with you on something. I am not sure what but I think it would be fun :)
