"There is so much to bask in and dissect. Vulnerability, interruptions, hedging, and power dynamics. The type of questions asked and the ways they’re asked, to the answering or even refusal to answer. And then there’s my favorite aspect: the lushness of silence. It’s cosmic."

What a great paragraph. Echo this, so totally and fully. It's true for conversations, it's true for new relationships, it's true in hearings before judges. Almost all of life feels like this dance to me, sometimes. And the time-space emptiness of silence in between is actually cosmic. What a great way to put it.

Lovely essay. :)

What a dazzling mini-essay on Before Sunrise. I love the film, and you speak on it and its meaning to you oh so eloquently.

I'm bookmarking the Nostalgia Machine so I can transport back to my Rocawear crunk grl phase.

This edition of Sunday Candy is such a gem & a vibe. Thank you for inviting us to your and Elizabeth's groovy dance party 🕺🏽

“But there’s also the fact that none of us are entirely knowable.”

So true in the sense that different people tap into different facets of us but rarely get to see each one.

Also... how do you do those cool squiggly lines and fancy signature and make them pop so well? I’m ultra basic in comparison and need to step it up. 😂

This is so beautifully written Sandra. Your writing reminds me of a singer with a gorgeous voice who can sing anything and pull you in with their voice alone. I don’t think it matters what you write about, you can always make it sound elegant and inviting.

And you owe me for all the hours I’m going to lose on the Nostalgia Machine.

Wow I looooove this collab energy. This piece feels like receiving a handwritten note and piece of art in the mailbox.

I love this movie! And I’m with you on deep conversations making deep connections.

“I love the ephemeral nature of conversations. The way they sizzle away in time and space just as quickly as they’re conjured. I’m intoxicated by the cryptic nature of what is said and how, but mostly, what is often left unsaid, and what we decide to keep locked away forever.” 😍

"There’s something dazzling about deep conversations not being preplanned or precisely arranged, the way they’re characterized by a free flowing spiraling, with at times, an awkward shuffling, a stepping of toes and crashing of limbs, at risk of being cataclysmic, but still punctured in perfection in their own way."

Your writing is just beautiful! Loved this one. Loved Elizabeth's art and playlist. Loved the personalized signature. 10s across the board Sandra!

What a cast for this edition of Sunday Candy!

I, of course, feel so culturally out of the loop when you or Oscar talk about movies but after reading this I became deeply reflective on the experimental jazz you described so well here.

The handwritten sign off was a bit of magic in itself. Isn't there something intimate in seeing the hand of another by their words? Like Elizabeth I hope it'll become a permanent addition.

Love this paragraph and metaphor about deep conversations: "It's verbal experimental jazz with humanity as both instrument and melody."

Thanks for another movie recommendation! I'm excited to watch Before Sunrise.

Also, love your purple squiggly dividers and hand written signature! Are those permanent additions to Sunday Candy? 🤩

And thanks for the shout-out! Let's collab again soon <3

This is so great Sandra! "I see it as more of an ode to the inherently divine nature of conversation and connection." Completely agree with this! It's definitely one of the best explorations on "what makes a good conversation", disguised as a love story.

And what you highlight about silence and things left unsaid, is so true and hadn't noticed it. It allows for breathing and reflecting, and is also so accurate since that's how human interactions are.

We'll soon continue our conversations about conversations :)

Excited to dive into the links and playlist now 🙌 It must all be good having been curated by you and potentialized by Elizabeth's taste in music 👏
