These are such precious fragments. I love these in-the-moment narratives you're able to weave, and you do weave them so beautifully. I wouldn't be opposed to more fragments. Have a great two weeks, friend!

#5 got me. I swear, some days, language is just not enough, yet we keep trying to express ourselves through it...

I love your header, it looks like melting cotton candy!

I’m resonating with your insight that “thoughts come out a little looser” when writing by hand. It feels so true. It’s a great way to get unstuck in any kind of writing or thoughts. But also I feel like it makes vulnerability easier in writing. Do you agree? Is that what you mean?

~~~
#1 - When I first read this, I imagined a bunch of iris flowers flying around in the air as you’re reading, and thought, “Oh wow, I’m loving this magical surrealism that Sandra’s experimenting with.” And I think that you writing about Shasta, a thick glowing moon, and gifting the sky helped reinforce this experience for me. But I realized reading it again that you meant your eyes. I was tired this morning 🙈
~~~

#2 - I resonate with this because I feel like I struggle to find words on the daily. And you saying, “there are no right words really” is comforting to me as a semi-new writer. I love how you tell stories through your observations!

~~~
#3 - I feel like I can hear all of these sounds with you.
~~~

#4 - That does sound a lil rude! And I love your reaction to it, and that you found it oddly amusing. I also love the holes you left in this context of this story, I’m trying to imagine where you are and who said this to you. Did some stranger approach you in the library? Was it the family dog sitting next to you on the sofa? This is such a perfect lil fragment story. I love it. I think its my favorite.

~~~
#5 - “It’s in these moments I’m reminded of how often I spend trying to grasp at a language that doesn’t want to be grasped. My hands grab at air and I carry fistfuls of nothing. And so, I say nothing.” Woah, I feel this, and its semi frequent haha but I love that you shared this and I’m wondering if part of the language that doesn’t want to be grasped is captured in your handwriting and artwork and music? And I find that so beautiful that you write with all these mediums.
I was SO excited to see a Sunday Candy playlist! I listened to it at work today, and it brought me out of my boring office desk work and back into the magic world of Sunday Candy. Thank you for sharing this, I’m going to listen to it at work on repeat until the next one comes out <3
Also, big fan of this ENTIRELY HANDWRITTEN ISSUE! I love how you innovate on every issue. It’s extremely inspiring and makes me want to push the bounds of mixed media for my work.
Really relate to #5, I have a lot of thoughts that I find it hard to turn into words, and when I do, it’s either incomplete, banal, or I’ve lost the thread.
“And it made me wonder what life would be like if I could gift the sky.” - perfect Sandra.
Also, I’m totally with you on replaying the same songs without wearing them out. Some songs never get old.
Happy and excited to read this format again, and all hand-written! Nice. By the way, loved the "work-in-progress" note before, makes a lot of sense. Made me wonder, do you pre-write it a few times and then do a cleaner "final" version, or it comes straight head -> paper?
Thoroughly enjoyed all 5 fragments, from your funny encounter and deep insight into clearness and boldness, to the airplane musings and ramifications, and everything in between, in no particular order. Your slow morning really pay off with this kind and insightful moments.
My favorite was the "physicality of passion" one, I've always heard about it being contagious, so accurate and memorably conveyed. Agreed, it pays (and should be encouraged) to be close to that level of love.
Will listen to the playlist, excited to see LCD Soundsystem there!
Your newsletter always does the job of "tenderizing" me. It's such a unique service you are providing! I love that the whole mood is always aligned to being tender, and that when I get to the end you're going to remind me to "stay tender". It's a reminder that is so needed in today's world and I appreciate it.
